As early as 1972, STC foresaw the need to get involved in a situation that the government clearly could not handle on its own. Its was a bold move, but the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and a group of generous STC parents and the alumnae were determined to make girls who had desire and potential to be great - but could not do so simply because they were born less priviledged - see and experience the benefits of wholistic and transformative education. Thus was born SEFI, or the Sambayan Educational Foundation, Inc., whose main mission is to make quality education available to financially disadvantaged but intellectually gifted students. SFEI offers so much more than a scholarship. It is true partnership between the Foundation, the school and the beneficiaries - wherein tuition fees from Prep to Fourth year high school are reduced for those who pass a rigorous set of criteria and examinations. The rigths and privacy of those assisted are protected by keeping their identities confidential, but they have an ICM sister and a social worker who monitor their progress and check to see if their family environments are supportive. No other exclusive school had set up a program before. STC was willing to be the first, and its success throughout the years is now clear for all to see. |
