Launching of the General Theme
By Gioia Mariella Nim 6-4 Mary of Jerusalem

Last June 22, 2007 at the GS lawn, the Grade School launched the general theme for this school year which is “We are Women and Men Disciples of Jesus Renewing Our Commitment to Live out Our Core Values towards Building a Civilization of Love”.    The master of ceremony declared that “Since it is a new school year, it is a great time to renew our commitment to live out the core values: Truth, Freedom, Justice, and Peace to build a civilization of love as an STC community.” Furthermore, she said that a focus should also be made in building a civilization of love.

The day started with an introduction about renewing our commitment to live out the core values. An opening song “POWER OF LOVE” was performed to remind everyone about the power of God’s love. We also focused on what it means to build a civilization of love.

Selected students from Grades 3-6 were asked to read stanzas from the poem “CIVILIZATION OF LOVE” (written by Rico and Coney Franco). Puzzle pieces were put in their places every time a grade level finishes her part. When all the pieces were placed, it showed a heart with pictures of various activities involving the different members of the STC community.

Each member of the community such as students, maintenance, non-teaching personnel, faculty, administration, ICM sisters was represented. They led the group in renewing their commitment to live out the core values towards building a civilization of love. They did this by placing their right hand gently to the left shoulder of the person beside them while renewing their commitment. The general theme was recited once more. The song “ONLY SELFLESS LOVE” was sang while the animators led the action interpretations.

In closing the emcee reminded everyone to do their share in building a civilization of love by being true to the commitments that have been made.

Grade School Students Put Up Mini Libraries Again
Patricia Belle Adolfo, 6-2 Mary of Nazareth

The Grade School students are once more busy putting up and maintaining their mini libraries in each of their classrooms. Now on its third year, this special activity which started in July challenges each class to convert a corner in their classrooms into a reading corner for the students. But unlike in previous years, this year’s mini libraries will no longer be a contest among grade levels and sections. However, it is still expected that the students will decorate their mini libraries in the most creative way they can and that each student would be able to lend at least a book from home.

Reading is such an enjoyable and inexpensive activity. It is hoped that the students will still cooperate in and support their mini libraries. It is also a beautiful way of sharing your collection of books at home with your classmates. It is in support of the school’s Speak English campaign as well.

Meantime, the students are expected to observe the rules in borrowing and returning the books in order to maintain organized mini libraries for everyone.

ENGLISH CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED
-Pauline Obach
6-(1) Mary of Bethlehem

Last July 20, 2007, the annual English campaign was officially launched. This activity aimed to further develop in Theresians the confidence and skill to use the English language.  Each grade level presented their chants, using catchy beats to encourage students to speak English as often as possible in the school grounds.  After the launching, the activity proceeded with the opening of the "Reading Corners", which was then followed by the first READ activity for the year.   The campaign proved to be a success, thanks to the active participation of all the students and the dedicated efforts of the English Area of the Grade school department.
