OPINIONS Nuggets of My Mind Let me ask you something—do you believe in the saying “The truth will set you free”? This quote has been one of my mantras ever since I was little. Whenever I’m afraid that I might have done or said something wrong, it always helps to confide in my mother, which gets my worries off my chest every single time. Wanting to share this tried-and-true formula with my fellow Theresians, I believe that writing about our 1st Quarter theme, “Live Out Truth,” is the best chance to do it. I was raised to think that one of the most important values everybody should have is honesty. Some people may think that honesty only means not copying someone else’s answers during tests, but it’s more than just that. It means doing the right thing even when no one is looking. It also means owning up to your mistakes and taking full responsibility for your actions. But sometimes honesty means telling the truth even if it hurts. My movie review of Ratatouille has a good example of this. In case you noticed, most of our problems these days are the results of people’s dishonesty. A good example of this is our country's poverty. Our country is very poor these days because our taxpayers' money goes into some politicians' pockets. This proves that if only everyone would be truthful 24/7, the world would be a better place for all of us. I know it’s easier said than done, but we should always strive to “Live Out Truth.” And next time you’re nervous about something you’ve done, bring it out into the open, own up to it and you’ll feel better. Believe me, folks… it works! J |
THE HONESTY BULLETIN In line with our 1st Quarter Theme, these are some of the members of the STC community who can be praised for their honesty:
Yes, these people may have been commended for their honesty, but even though your name wasn't placed here, you should still try to be as truthful as you can. We shouldn't be honest and fake a good deed just to get publicity for it. No, honesty and good deeds should come straight from the heart, not just from lip service. And if you find a wallet with lots of money in it and feel the temptation to keep it, you shouldn't. Put yourself in someone else's place for a minute and think about how panicked this person is. We should let the people mentioned above be role models for us. So, once again, let's have a big hand for these members of the STC community. |
THE TATTLER As the old saying goes, “The truth shall set you free.” And no matter how clichéd this may seem, this truth will always hold for any occasion. It always pays to be honest, but sometimes, it gets so difficult to tell the truth. Sometimes, the consequences of telling the truth can scare us at first. Now, members of the STC community share their experiences: Question: Answers: “I saw a 50-peso bill in the canteen and I gave it to the girl who lost it.” “I told my parents that I failed in my quiz.” “I don’t cheat in quizzes.” “I told my mother that I accidentally broke the porcelain plate.” “I returned the 500-peso-bill I found.” “I told Mrs. Antonio that I vandalized in the C.R.” “I bring lost wallets and jugs to the GSSO.” See? Aren’t we proud of our fellow Theresians and personnel? Telling the truth may be very difficult at times, but the fulfillment of doing the right thing in the end will be the ultimate prize. Hope we learned a lot from these answers and keep practicing honesty at all times. God bless!
