LAWYER, CO-FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF GKONOMICS, SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR, STCQC ALUMNA & TERESA’S LIGHT AWARDEE, ATTY. ROSE ISADA-CABRERA,  JOINS THE SENIOR HIGH FACULTY

Atty. Rose Isada-Cabrera of STCQC Batch ’85, inspires the young ladies taking her class in Business Leadership in the 21st Century, to look at business from the stand point of social entrepreneurship.

Leaving her comfortable lifestyle and successful law practice in the United States, Atty. Rose with her husband, returned home to the Philippines to fulfill her longtime dream to help her struggling countrymen get out of poverty. Being a staunch believer of social reform through self-empowerment, Atty. Cabrera teamed up with Mr. Tony Meloto, Founder of Gawad Kalinga, as well as other businessmen and businesswomen to put up GKonomics – a platform for social enterprise that is committed to build Filipino global brands that do not leave the poor behind. She sits in the Board of GKonomiks  as  Executive Director. Being a social entrepreneur herself,  she put up the  Mabuhay Restop, a travel café and museum in Rizal Park, that showcases Philippine Life & Culture through cultural shows, eye opening social tours and art exhibits. It is also a showroom for  products made by various local communities.    In 2010, Atty. Rose was accorded the Teresa’s Light Award by the STC Alumnae Association for her contribution and service to the community.

Despite her very busy and hectic schedule, Atty. Rose graciously accepted the invitation of Maria Teresa C. Bayle, the STCQC HS Principal, to be a member of the senior high school faculty this school year as the teacher for the elective  Business Leadership in the 21st Century. According to Atty. Rose, accepting the teaching position was an opportunity for her to give back to the school that was truly instrumental in making her a woman of faith and service.

Only two months into the second semester, Atty. Cabrera has opened the minds of her Grade 11 students to the world of social entrepreneurship through the sharing of several successful social entrepreneurs as well as an exposure trip to the GK Enchanted Farm in Bulacan.

It is her hope that one day, these young Theresians will use their learnings from her class to make a difference in the lives of the poor in our society.
