Saint Theresa’s College of Quezon City successfully holds its Online Cultural Exchange with Obayashi Sacred Heart School of Japan under the theme “STCQC and Obayashi Friendship Through Shared Gestures Embracing Cultures.” The event brings together school administrators, teachers, and Grade 6 students from both institutions in a meaningful celebration of friendship, cultural understanding, and global connection.

The program opens with greetings, prayers, and the singing of the Philippine and Japanese national anthems, setting a respectful and joyful tone for the day. The event is hosted by Grade 6 student emcees, who guide the program with confidence and enthusiasm. A message of welcome is delivered by Mrs. Elizabeth D. Mendoza, Grade School Principal of Saint Theresa’s College of Quezon City, who emphasizes the importance of cultural exchange in forming globally aware and compassionate learners.

Participants gain a deeper appreciation of each school through video presentations that highlight school life, traditions, and shared values. The Grades 3 to 6 Academic Team Leader reflects on the long standing partnership between the two schools and shares memories of past online and in person interactions, emphasizing how the friendship continues to grow stronger through the years.

The breakout sessions serve as the heart of the exchange, allowing students to interact in small groups and engage in meaningful conversations. During these sessions, students share aspects of their culture including food, games, songs, dances, and daily school life. Despite the virtual setting, the interactions are filled with excitement, curiosity, and genuine connection.

During the second plenary session, student representatives from both countries share their reflections and insights from the exchange. This is followed by a symbolic friendship exchange, where students present cultural symbols that represent peace, sincerity, unity, and goodwill. These shared gestures reflect the theme of the event and reinforce mutual respect between the two cultures.

Messages of gratitude are delivered by Sr. Mami Ohara, School Principal of Obayashi Sacred Heart School of Japan, who expresses appreciation for the continued partnership and shared learning experiences. The program concludes with an inspiring message from Dr. Maria Teresa C. Bayle, School Director of Saint Theresa’s College of Quezon City, who encourages students to carry forward the values of friendship, respect, and cultural appreciation beyond the classroom.

More than an academic activity, the Online Cultural Exchange stands as a meaningful reminder that friendship goes beyond borders. Through shared gestures, open dialogue, and cultural exchange, students from the Philippines and Japan strengthen a bond that continues to grow across cultures and generations.
